| There are no differences in the storyline from choosing one over the other. Only the dialogue is affected. If I had room in my party, I'd take both of them just to see their dialogue. (Sarevok doesn't like Boo, which results in some of the funniest dialogue in the game.) If you're playing a Good party with a Reputation of 19 or 20, Sarevok (as well as the other Evil NPCs) will complain quite a lot, but he (and the others) won't break with your group. (They would have done so in Shadows of Amn, but that has changed in Throne of Bhaal.) When you first meet him, Sarevok promises to give you information about your quest, but that never happens, which is a let-down, but that's just the way it is.
If you play Throne of Bhaal with the Ascension Mod, the final battles are a lot more interesting, especially if you have Sarevok in your party. I suggest that you save your game when you re-enter Saradush, then finish the game without the Mod, the install the Mod and reload your saved game from Saradush and replay the rest of the game. I think you'll find it interesting.
SPOILERS
Sarevok can't use stealth or druid spells (Minsc can), but Sarevok is a much stronger as a Fighter, due to his Grand Mastery in two-handed swords, STR 18/00, DEX 17, and CON 18. He also has a unique special ability called "Deathbringer Assault", which randomly does 200 points of damage per hit (I think it's about a 1% chance, maybe higher). Some people dual him to a Thief, and he even has INT 17 if you feel like dualling him to a Mage! I prefer to let him become an extremely high level Fighter. I also make it a point to select the dialogue options that will lead to his change in alignment. |
