I tried one under AD&D rules. The game wasn't really designed with psionics in mind in the first place, so it became very unbalanced at high levels (sucked at low levels, though). Defenses against magic are pretty common, but psionics was something entirely different. There was almost no stopping it.
Not sure how 3E handles it. Probably better.
