Its a long long time since I finished BGI but I did have a variety of party members throughout.
My final party consisted of (if I remember right!)

I did have Kivan but gave him up in the Nashkel mines to release Xan who turned out to be a real pain in the a**e but when I went back for Kivan he would not rejoin. Sad loss.
The first time through this game I did not meet Minsc but found Dynaheir and she joined. In BGII I let minsc go - he wound me up - well Boo did!
