In a pleasant change of pace for me, I'm actually going to make a positive post instead of my usual fare of bile and hate. Enjoy. (grin)
Planescape is definitely worth getting. It's vastly superior to anything in the BG series, and extra-vastly superior to IWD. (In my opinion, anyway.) It's one of the best, if not THE best, computer RPGs out there. But, it's not for everybody...as evidenced by the incredibly poor sales, especially compared to the aforementioned inferior games. It really depends on what you want.
The way I see it, games like Icewind Dale represent one extreme end of the spectrum of this genre, and games like Planescape represent the other end. IWD is pretty much a pure dungeon crawl, with very little in the way of NPC interaction or story. (Which to me is about as interesting as watching my neighbor's dog lick himself.) Planescape, on the other hand, is almost all NPC interaction and story. In Ps:T what you say is more important than what you poke holes into with pointy things, which is a pretty far cry from IWD. There's fighting and some dungeon crawling, of course, but it takes a backseat to the (fascinating) story.
So, basically, if you're big on plot and character, go for it. In my opinion it's an incredibly good game, and since my opinion is the only one that counts just ignore the fact that almost no one bought it and go get the game. Besides, at this point it's only about $20, so you don't really have anything to lose.

Hell, the hilarious free holiday patches for Annah and Morte alone are worth $20. Heh. |
