Well, now I'm pretty sure that you should install the patch. It was several years ago when exactly the same problem occured to me. I fear that you'll have to begin a new game, it seems that all saves somehow become corrupt because of this. Maybe I am wrong (and I hope so) but I know no solution to this problem other than beginning a new game. I think you'd better reinstall Arcanum and install the latest patch.
