Companion Quest: Alone
Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

You'll receive this quest at the end of the quest Speak to Fenris.

Walkthrough

For this quest, you'll need to accompany Fenris to the Hanged Man tavern (during the day) so he can meet with his sister Varania. However, as soon as you enter the tavern, you'll realize that something is wrong, and soon enough Danarius will show up with his bodyguards and demand that Fenris come with him. Your response here can influence your companions:
  • If you say "He's no one's slave," then you'll gain friendship points with Aveline and Fenris.

  • If you say "We can negotiate," then you'll gain rivalry points with Fenris.

  • If you say "Take him" followed by "Very well," then you'll gain (lots of) rivalry points with Fenris.

  • If you say "Take him" followed by "Not a chance," then you'll gain friendship points with Anders but rivalry points with Aveline, Merrill, Sebastian and Varric.
Depending on your response, one of two things will happen:
  • If you hand Fenris over to Danarius, then you'll lose Fenris as a companion, but you'll gain 5 sovereigns and 800 xp for making the exchange. Danarius (and Fenris) will then leave the tavern peaceably, and you won't ever see them again. Later, Danarius will send you a message at your estate, and he'll mention an extra reward, but you won't actually receive anything.

  • For all other cases, you'll end up fighting Danarius, plus a collection of slavers, shades, demons, and the undead. After the battle, Fenris will finish off Danarius, and then he'll want to finish off his sister (who voluntarily participated in the trap) as well. Your response here will give you another chance to influence your companions:

    • If you say "Fenris, stop," then you'll gain friendship points with Aveline and Sebastian, and rivalry points with Fenris and Isabela.

    • If you say "It's not my place," then you'll gain friendship points with Fenris and Isabela, and rivalry points with Anders, Aveline and Sebastian.

    • If you say "You deserve to die," then you'll gain friendship points with Fenris, and rivalry points with Anders, Aveline, Isabela and Sebastian.

    • Finally, at the end of the conversation, if you ask "You're blaming magic?" then you'll gain rivalry points with Fenris.

Regardless of what you say, Varania will disappear from the game, and you'll receive 1300-1500 xp plus the Cuirass of the Centurion for completing the quest.
