Wisdom reflects a character's willpower, insight, and intuition. A player character is much more aware of his surroundings with a high wisdom score and
is even granted a bonus in resisting spells that affect the mind, such as Charm Person. The attribute is very important to
priests in both editions of the D&D rules, but can come in handy for other characters as well.
With the advent of 3rd Edition, Wisdom was given more of a purpose to Rangers and Paladins (compared to 2E), since they now too gain bonus spells. Here's a breakdown
of what the attribute modifier is used for with regard to wisdom:
- Will saving throws (for resisting Charm Person, etc)
- Several skills with wisdom as their key ability
Keep in mind, as with Intelligence, any class that can cast priest spells (Clerics, Druids, Rangers, and Paladins) must possess a wisdom equal to or greater than 10 +
the spell's spell level.
