Your ability to learn, retain knowledge, and reason is measured by your intelligence. Being the primary statistic for wizards and sorcerers, it dictates your chance
at learning spells, how many you can learn, and just how powerful they can be. And, to make it important to all classes, it also determines how many skills the character
can learn.
Here's a summary of what the attribute's modififer does:
- Number of languages the character knows when he begins
- Number of skill points gained each level (with a minimum of 1)
- Several skills with intelligence as their key ability
Intelligence is very important to wizards, due to the fact that a formula using the attribute is used to determine what maximum spell level a
wizard can cast. The 3E rules state that a wizard's intelligence must be equal to or greater than 10 + spell level, therefore requiring a 19 intelligence for a wizard to be
able to fire off a Meteor Swarm or similar 9th level spell.
