Your character's constitution determines his or her resistance to injury and disease, as well as their stamina and physique. The attribute
affects the longevity of a character, granting them a hit point bonus for high scores or a penalty for low.
Using the 3rd edition table above, you can see that a character gets a modifier bonus or penalty (notice that it even offers a bonus to a score
as low as 12, contrary to 2nd edition's 15) that tacks onto the following:
- Rolls for hit points
- Fortitude saving throws
- Several skills with constitution as their key ability
One final tidbit worthy of note in both 2nd and 3rd edition rules is that if your constitution changes during the game, all bonuses change accordingly (thus altering your hit points if necessary).
