Werewolf Island (South)

Did we miss anything in this location? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

STORY:

Following a massive storm encountered during the voyage which was to allow you to discover Balduran's fate, your ship has shipwrecked and you found yourself, alive, on an island which seems pretty inhabited(though the rest of the crew ALL perished at sea…). Upon questioning the villagers, you'll soon learn that you have landed just where you wanted, as Balduran's ship lies just on the northern coast of this island. His final fate, however, will be much harder to establish.

LOCATIONS:

1- SOLIANNA:

A child you meet just after awaking the morning following your shipwreck. To get the maximum information out of her, choose the following dialog options(although other options are as good): 2-1-1-1-1. To make a long story short, she points out as soon as you start the conversation to the fact that you "do not belong"(you'll find out later on what it means…) but she's not afraid of you because of it. She also tells you a bit about how her grand-grand parents got to the island, but nothing of very precise. If you continue the conversation, she also tells you about the "beasties" who live on the northern part of the island and who are like them, but then become mean(that too, you'll find out later…). Finally, she tells you to talk with Kaishas Gan, the leader of the village while her husband is away(think hard about it…). Do so at location (12), since the other villagers won't speak with you before that.

2- HUT:

There is a Potion of Explosions and a Cursed Potion of Healing in this hut.

3- HUT:

You'll find an Oil of Fiery Burning in this other hut.

4- HOUSE:

Search this house for some good loot including: 3 Potions of Healing, 2 Pearls, a Potion of Regeneration and a Potion of Fire Giant Strength.

5- EVALT:

A fisherman who asks you to find his brother who went missing a few days ago. He's sure that his brother has been charmed by a sirine on the western coast of the island, a sirine he often hears himself on his fishing trips(but never gets charmed…). You'll find that his brother has been killed by the Sirine Queen on the northern part of the island. Return his body for 900 Exp. to Evalt.

6- FARTHING:

A little girl whose doll has been stolen by a bunch of wolfweres. Be careful as you can lose this quest if you don't say the right things(choices: 1-1-1). You'll find the doll on Palin on the northern part of the island. Return it to Farthing for 1400 Exp.

7- HOUSE:

Taloun: A sailor from Amn who's ship got attacked by a kraken and barely escaped with his life. The village welcomed him as one of their own as he brought them new fishing and farming techniques. His dialog is quite interesting as he reveals how Balduran's ship stopped on the island for repairs on their way home and got attacked by lycanthropes(werewolves, loup garous and the like) while on the island. The ship burned almost completely and Balduran and his mage Dradeel went on missing in the fight. The crew members who escaped built the village and defended themselves against the lycanthropes. He warns you, however, not to trust anyone or anything you see on the island including himself!

8- HUT:

Search this hut for a Sphene Gem and a Potion of Agility.

9- JORIN:

A fighter from the village who is rather rude with you the first time you meet him. If you don't take offense and tell him that you'll let your actions speak for you, he loosens up and gives you some useful tips about the wolfweres on the northern part of the island. He first tells you that the younger ones are very aggressive and attack you on sight. They are brown and also rather brainless. The older ones are black with some silver fur. They are far more dangerous and some even cast spells. He tells you that their leader is Karoug and that you can only hit him with some special weapons (we have a complete list for you here at Gamebanshee: Bastard Sword "Kondar" (+1, +3 vs. Shapeshifters), Sword of Balduran (+4 vs. Lycanthropes), Silver Dagger - Werebane (+1, +4 vs. lycanthropes) and the Long Sword +1, "Flame Tongue" (+1, +2 vs. regenerating creatures)).

10- HOUSE:

Search this house for 2 Potions of Healing.

11- MARALEE:

A young woman from the village who's husband went hunting with her son on the northern part of the island. Her husband got killed and despite what the rest of the village thinks, she's sure that her son is still alive and asks you to find him for her. He can actually be found on Karoug, the wolfwere leader, on the northern part of the island. Return Maralle her son for a good 4000 Exp. If you do so, she helps you escape the village after completing Kaishas' quest. See location (13) for more details.

12- CHIEFTAIN'S HOUSE:

Kaishas Gan: The leader of the village since Selaad, her husband and chief of the village, went away to the mainland some time ago(read between the line, please) to find a way to rescue them. She *welcomes* you to the village, despite the fact that you "do not belong". If you explain your motives for being here(to find Balduran's ship and the explanation of his disappearance) she tells you that he wasn't amongst the founders of the village and that he didn't "belong" either. She points to the fact that his ship(or whatever remains of it) is still on the northern coast of the island. She also tells you that they found a safe harbor at the north of the island where they could build a ship but that they cannot access it due to the wolfweres(which is a lie, since the villagers have a secret passage…). She tells you that in order to escape, you need to destroy the wolfweres and their leader, Karoug. He is like them, but not like them as he does not belong (rather enigmatic, don't you think?).

When you return after Karoug's murder, you'll find the terrible secret the villagers share. They are all infected with lycanthropy and can turn into werewolves at will. The way in which they differ from the wolfweres is that wolfweres are really wolves who can change into humans while they are humans who can change into wolves. To reward you for your services, she also infects you with lycanthropy. However, her second-in-command, Tailas, doesn't want to have anything to do with you because he wants to preserve the pureness of the race. So, Kaishas takes your maps and leaves you to defend yourself against a full village of werewolves(420 Exp./** Difficulty). Check location (13) for more details on how to escape.

Tailas: The village's second-in-command doesn't like you at all from the first minute he sees you. He secretly makes the villagers arise against you while you are killing their old enemies, the wolfweres. As soon as you come back to Kaishas, he tells her that he doesn't want you to dilute their pure blood and attacks you(420 Exp./** Difficulty). He is not hard, though.

Enemy tactics: Werewolves are as aggressive as wolfweres but they have less HPs and magic resistance. They do not cast spells and are just going to charge you into melee fight. They are not hard to kill individually (420 Exp./** Difficulty).

Suggested tactics: Use items with bonus THACO and damage vs. lycanthropes, shapeshifters and regenerating creatures will usually make fights a lot easier. Also, remember that werewolves still have a high THACO and killing them with missile weapons or summoning monsters to hold them back might be a good idea.

Loot: Search the house for a Potion of Heroism and a Sunstone Gem.

13- DRADEEL/DELAINY/DURLYLE/MARALEE (AFTER COMPLETING KAISHAS' QUEST):

If you have helped any of these three persons(Delainy and Durlyle are really the same person and will vary according to your contender's gender), you'll meet them around the village while you try to escape and they will bring you to this house(location (14)) and tell you that there is a warren below it which will lead you to the ship on the northern part of the island. You can now access it as Kaishas opened the door for you. Dradeel also gives you more details on the lycanthropes. It appears that the lighter ones moved to the southern part of the island after attacking him and Balduran while the darker ones elected to remain on the northern part of the island and live in the shipwreck. They hate each other ever since for an unknown reason. He doesn't explain what happened to Balduran, though (he probably died while bravely defending his ship against the invaders).

14- HOUSE:

There is a secret door in the right portion of the room which you won't be able to open before completing Kaishas' quest. This door leads to subterranean warrens in which some of the villagers live in their werewolf form. You'll need to travel through them in order to reach Kaishas before she leaves with the ship (see these separate sections for more details).

15- DELAINY/DURLYLE:

The gender of the person you meet here depends on the gender of the own PC. The dialog and the quests which follow shouldn't vary, though. Your first quest will be to retrieve a Holy Cloak which the village lost during the storm which wrecked your own ship. The cloak has a strong symbolic meaning for the villagers and it is vital that you retrieve it. It can actually be found in Dradeel's cabin on the northern part of the island. Return it to Delainy or Durlyle and you'll then have a little romance with her/him(choices: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-1-1) at the end of which you are asked to bring them some Belladonna flowers(found in Dradeel's cabin or in the bushes at the northern edge of this map). Once the flowers are returned, you get to keep them(be careful as they are poisonous) and if you end the dialog well (choices: 1-1-1) Delainy or Durlyle will help you after completing Kaisha's quest.(Note: you get no experience for this quest)

16- LAHL:

The gardener of the village who asks you to get off his plants. If you are not rude with him, he tells you about his wife who got killed by a bunch of wolfweres and asks you to avenge her for him. Return to him once you have killed Karoug and he thanks you for your efforts, though you get no experience for it.

17- GATEKEEPER:

He accepts to let you through once you talked with Kaishas and agreed to help her.
