Friendly Arm Inn

Did we miss anything in this location? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

This walled hamlet located on the Coastway several days North of Beregost consists of a stone keep(the inn) with stables, gardens, a horse pond, and caravan wagons sheds. It also shelters a few houses, a large meeting hall with many-pillared entrance, a small store and magic shop, and a temple to Garl Glittergold, chief god of the gnomes. The Friendly Arm was once the hold of an evil priest of Bhaal who was destroyed in undead form by a band of adventurers led by the gnome thief and illusionist Bentley Mirrorshade.

Important characters:
- Bentley Mirrorshade (CG, gnome male, illusionist/thief 10th level)
- Gellana Mirrorshade (NG, gnome female, priest 10th level)

1- GUARDS:

Remind you that the Friendly Arm is a neutral ground and that no battle will be tolerated.

2- JOIA’S HOUSE:

Joia: Quest to retrieve her Flamedance Ring which was stolen by the hobgoblins at location (6). She has no money or reward to offer but if you do the quest you get 400 Exp. and your Reputation increases by 1.

3- TARNESH:

Yet another assassin, and this one is a magic user. He casts such things as Mirrored Image, Horror and Magic Missiles. The trick to beat him is to prevent him from casting Mirrored Image. Use bows to disrupt his casting or Xzar’s Larloch’s Minor Drain(if you have Xzar in your party). If you survive, you get 120 Exp., 58 gp. and 3 scrolls: Magic Missile, Armor and Burning Hands.

4- THE FRIENDLY ARM INN:

1st Floor:

Jopi: Tells you about the bandit raids in the region and also that the roads have been closed. Alternatively, he can also tell you about his uncle who lives in Baldur’s Gate.

Nessie: The barmaid who takes care of the customers. She can tell you about the Mirrorshades, the history of the Friendly Arm or about the visitors presently residing at the keep.

Khalid and Jaheira: The 2 friends your foster father Gorion told you about. Jaheira (TN, Half-Elf Female, Fighter/Druid) and Khalid (NG, Half-Elf Male, Fighter) greet you and offer you the chance to join them and to go to Naskhel to investigate the trouble at the mines. Khalid is a descent fighter with both the sword and the bow, while Jaheira can heal your party with her druidic spells(rather limited in BG).

Bentley Mirrorshade: The retired gnome is now running the Friendly Arm. Apart from a greeting, you won’t get much out of him.
Rooms: The 4 types of rooms are offered.
Shop: Basic weapons and armor, Plate Mail and Large Shield +1.
Drinks: Yes.
Steal: No.

Shelf in kitchen: There is a Potion of Healing on one of the shelves in the kitchen.

2nd Floor:

Unshey: A dwarven cleric who fancies himself with writing. He is currently working on a new book but has been distracted by the theft of his Girdle of Piercing. The girdle can be found on the ogre at the Crossroads, South of the Friendly Arm. Return him the girdle(or keep it, it is a very good item) for 800 Exp. and 70 gp. If you have a charisma of 16 or more, you’ll get 95 gp. and a copy of his new book.

Chests: The chests on this level are far from being easy to open. You need a thief with 40-50 points in Lockpicking to open them or a fighter with a high strength. The same applies to the chests on the 3rd floor.

3rd Floor:

Landrin: Landrin the gnome asks you to clean her house in Beregost from a spider infestation and to bring her the pair of Worn out Boots and the Bottle of Wine you’ll find in the house. Be sure to also bring the body of the biggest spider. Her house is the one West of the Jovial Juggler and if you have a charisma of 18(17 might work as well), she gives you 6 antidotes to protect you from the spider’s venom. You get a total of 800 Exp. and 295 gp. for bringing her the 3 items she asked.

Nobleman: A nobleman on the level asks you to clean a pair of Golden Pantaloons for him. Since there is no place where you can do that, just return the pantaloons to him and you’ll get 100 Exp. Ironically, these pantaloons can also be kept all the way through the entire Baldur's Gate saga and used in conjunction with the Silver Pantaloons and Bronze Pantalettes to make the Big Metal Unit in the Baldur's Gate II expansion, Throne of Bhaal. How's that for an easter egg!

5- TEMPLE OF WISDOM:

Gellana Mirrorshade: Offers you all the services of a normal temple. Also, if you have Samuel’s body you’ll need to bring it to her. Note that if you take too long before bringing Samuel to Gellana, he'll die and you'll get no rewards for this quest. See area 5500 for more details.

6- HOBGOBLINS:

The 3 hobgoblins who have robbed Joia of her Flamedance Ring. Make them regret the day they were born and return the ring to Joia for some nice experience and an increase in Reputation.

7- SPOILER (LOCATION: X 2555, Y 3759):

At the base of the pine tree there is a small hole (easy to miss). Search it and you’ll find a Ring of Wizardry(doubles the amount of 1st level spells a mage can memorize, worth 9000 gp. in a shop!).

Note: As far as we know, the ring is still there once you have installed ToSC and the latest patch.
