This part of the Cloakwood forest is the headquarters of the spiders and ettercaps on the Sword Coast. They are really numerous and so are the traps. Always keep some antidotes at hand and using missile weapons is also a good idea. For the traps, you’ll need a thief with a good Detect Traps skill. Otherwise, you may wish to send in one of your fighters wielding the Spider’s Bane(Free Action) to trigger the traps and wait for the effect to dispel.
1- TIBER:
A young adventurer who came to the Cloakwood forest with his brother Chelak in order to clear it of the spider’s colony infesting it. What determined them to do so was the discovery of the Two-Handed Sword +2 “Spider’s Bane” which was created to destroy Spiders. Unfortunately, his brother disappeared for more than a week and Tiber asks you to find him. Actually, Chelak’s body can be found at location (2). Bring it back to his brother for 800 Exp. and he lets you keep the sword.
2- SPIDER’S DEN:
Centeol: The queen of the spiders. She has been cursed by the arch mage Jon Icarus(any link with Jon Irenicus from BG2?) and ever since she lives here with her pets. No matter what you say, she will attack you with her spiders. She is backed up by 2 Sword Spiders, 4 Giant Spiders and 2 Ettercaps. The fight can be quite hard if you are not careful. Here is a strategy that might help you in this fight: before you enter the den, cast some protection spells on your party such as Bless, Aid, Chant and Protection from Evil. Also, be sure to protect your mage with Mirrored Image and/or Shield. Once inside, immediately send a Fireball(spell, wand, Necklace of Missiles, Arrows of Detonation) behind Centeol(if you center it on her, your party will be hit). She then initiates dialog but the fight will now be much easier. Take care of her and of the Sword Spiders first. Then finish off the rest of the horde. The Sword Spiders are worth a good 2000 Exp. each.
Center of the den: You can loot the center of the den for a Fire Opal Ring(250 gp.), a Wand of Frost, a Cursed Ring of Folly, the Spider’s Bane and Chelak’s body. Be careful as he is quite heavy. You’ll need a character with a high Strength to bring him to his brother Tiber at location (1).
