Bandit Camp

This camp is used as a base by both the Chill and the Black Talon Mercenaries. These two factions were hired by Tazok to rob all the caravans carrying iron between Amn and Baldur’s Gate. However, both groups believe that the Zhentarim are behind that, which is false. Watch out for bandits and hobgoblins. They are all around the camp(the hobgoblins tend to stay in the western portion while the bandits stay in the eastern one). Lastly, don’t forget to scalp the bandits and to search all the huts and chests of the camp. They often contain treasures not marked on the map.


1- TAZOK:

If you talked with either Raiken in Peldvale or Teven in Larswood and asked to join their group, you’ll be immediately transported here and you’ll have a chat with Tazok. Choose the options 3-2 to avoid the fight. Tazok then leaves you in the camp and goes to the Cloakwood forest. If you choose instead to fight Takoz, be careful as he is very tough. When his HPs drop low he’ll stop the fight and let you stay in the camp. The bandits and hobgoblins won’t be in enemy stance(red), so visit the camp and spot all the important locations before you act.


2- ARDENOR CRUSH:

The leader of the Chill Mercenaries (hobgoblins). If you provoke him, he’ll attack you. He is worth 900 Exp.


3- GARCLAX:

He and 7 other Gnolls (Normal, Slashers, Elites, Veterans and Flinds) have been placed there as a penitence for some fault they committed. You can kill them for some experience, but there is nothing to rob.


4- TAUGOSZ KHOSANN:

The leader of the Black Talon Mercenaries. He is one of my favorite characters in the game because he poses a challenge to your party. If you came in the camp as recruits, take your time and position your party members before attacking him(he is a good starting place for your massacre). Avoid melee combat, as he is very good at it. Missile weapons and magic should do the trick fine. He is worth a good 2000 Exp. and has a Full Plate Mail, a Medium Shield +1, a War Hammer +1 and 2 potions: Potion of Fortitude and Potion of Firebreath.


5- TAZOK’S TENT:

If you enter, 4 of his henchmen will greet you: Britik(gnoll), Raemon(bandit), Ventk(mage) and Hakt(hobgoblin archer). Target the mage first and then take down Hakt because he is a good archer. Then finish off the 2 others. The fight is very easy. I must admit that Taugosz alone can pose a bigger threat. You get a total of 3750 Exp. for killing them and some treasures from their corpses: Long Bow of Marksmanship, Arrows of Ice, Mage Robe of Fire Resistance, 2 Potions of Healing and 3 Scrolls: Friends, Color Spray and Blindness.

Ender Sai: A thief who was taken prisoner because he messed up with the Iron Throne organization in Baldur’s Gate. He sheds some light on the bandit groups and their employers. He also hints to the fact that their base may be located in the Cloakwood forest.

Chest behind Ender Sai: Watch out, it is trapped! There are 2060 gp. in the chest and some scrolls: Stinking Cloud, Agannazar’s Scorcher and Horror. Finally, you can find 2 letters from Davaeorn(remember his brother South of Candlekeep?) to Tazok. This also ends Chapter 3.

Room: Search the chests and bags around the room for 750 gp. and a Potion of Magic Blocking.


6- CHEST:

There is a Short Sword +1 in a chest around this spot.


7- CHEST:

There is a Medium Shield +1 in a chest around this spot.
